Today, a new Tamil web series called “Inspector Rishi,” featuring Naveen Chandra and Sunainaa, has just dropped on Amazon Prime Video. It’s available in many Indian languages, including Telugu. Wondering if it’s worth a watch? Check out our review to see what we think about it.

Story:

In the new series “Inspector Rishi,” we meet Rishi Nandhan, a tough crime branch inspector with one eye. He heads to Thaenkaadu village near Coimbatore, a place surrounded by dense forests, to look into some bizarre murders happening there. Alongside his team, Ayyanar and Chitra, Rishi dives into uncovering if these murders are connected to Vanaratchi, the forest goddess, or not. As they investigate, they uncover the secrets behind the killings and how they’re being carried out.

Positive Aspects :

Once again, Naveen Chandra impresses with his role as an inspector investigating forest murders. He brings out the character’s determination and complexity really well.

Sunainaa, playing a Forest Beat Officer, also stands out with her performance, showing both innocence and depth in her character.

The supporting actors like Malini Jeevarathnam, Kanna Ravi, Srikrishna Dayal, and Kumaravel also do a great job, adding to the overall quality of the series.

Negative Aspects :

The series struggles to mix mystery, horror, and thriller aspects well, leading to a weak storyline and slow-moving scenes.

The first five episodes move slowly, testing viewers’ patience with a lack of excitement in the storytelling. Even though things pick up a bit later on, the ending still feels sluggish. Plus, watching all 10 episodes, totaling 8 hours, can be tough for viewers.

The scary parts don’t really scare, and Vanaratchi’s appearances don’t have much impact due to how they’re presented.

Mixing Tamil songs into the Telugu version confuses the audience and takes away from the regional experience.

There are too many characters who don’t add much to the story, making it feel messy and leaving little room for character growth. Also, the creator spends too much time on side stories, which messes with the series’ flow.

Technical Elements :

The director, JS Nandhini, tries hard to make a gripping story, but ends up with too many scenes that aren’t needed and a story that feels too long, making it hard to stay interested.

The sound and camera work don’t really make you feel tense, and the editing could be better.

But, on a good note, K Kadhirr’s production design is really nice, making the series look great.

Conclusion :

Overall, “Inspector Rishi” doesn’t meet expectations because of its weak story, slow pace, and technical problems. Even though the main actors do a good job, the series isn’t very engaging because of too many scenes that aren’t needed, too many episodes, and extra storylines that don’t add much. It’s not worth spending time on a series that doesn’t reach its full potential.
