Fake Ayodhya Prasadam: Amazon Probed

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Amazon following a complaint by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The complaint alleges deceptive trade practices related to the sale of sweets falsely claiming to be ‘Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.’ With the upcoming consecration of the Ram Mandir on January 22, the complaint accuses Amazon of misleadingly presenting these products as prasad.

The CCPA has given Amazon seven days to respond and cautioned about potential action under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The regulatory authority pointed out that sweets like ‘Raghupati Ghee Ladoo’ and ‘Desi Cow Milk Peda’ on Amazon had misleading claims, potentially influencing consumer decisions with false representations.

In response, Amazon stated it is “taking appropriate actions” and investigating the misleading product claims as per their policies. They emphasized the importance of adhering to consumer protection regulations.
