Mamootty, the big Malayalam star, has a new movie out in Telugu called “Bramayugam.” It’s directed and written by Rahul Sadasivan and stars Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharathan in important roles. Let’s find out what the movie is like.

Story :

Imagine the story happening back in the 17th Century in Malabar. There’s this guy named Thevan (played by Arjun Ashokan), who’s a singer at the royal court. He and his friend Koran (played by Manikandan R. Archery) manage to escape from a bad situation involving slave trade. While trying to cross a river, unfortunately, Koran gets attacked by a spirit named Yakshi (played by Amalda Liz) and doesn’t make it. To save himself, Thevan seeks refuge in a mansion owned by Kudumon Potti (played by Mamootty). Kodumon Potti’s cook is played by Sidharth Bharatan.

Kodumon Potti is kind enough to let Thevan stay in the mansion. However, as time goes on, Thevan starts feeling that something is not quite right in that mansion and with Kodumon Potti. What could it be? Did Thevan manage to escape from the mysterious mansion? What secrets does Kodumon Potti hold? That’s the intriguing story of Bramayugam.

Positive Aspects :

Bramayugam is something different, and big applause to Mammootty for trying out this kind of movie and always pushing the limits. The story mainly revolves around three characters and mostly takes place in one big mansion. So, for a movie like this, the acting and technical stuff have to be top-notch. Bramayugam manages to get these things right.

Mammootty does an amazing job as Kudomon Potti. His close-up shots, detailed acting, and strong dialogue delivery make a big impact. Instead of relying on sudden scares and common tricks, Bramayugam creates a spooky atmosphere through an old mansion, Mammootty’s mysterious character, and the black-and-white style.

Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharatan also do a fantastic job in their roles. We really connect with Arjun Ashokan’s character and support him. His facial expressions and body language are really impressive. There’s a crucial scene where two important characters get stuck, and the way it’s filmed is just mind-blowing. Even though Bramayugam might seem like a ghostly movie, Rahul Sadasivan cleverly brings in some social issues by blending them into the horror theme, showing his skill in storytelling.

Negative Aspects :

Bramayugam might not be everyone’s favorite, especially if you’re expecting a regular scary movie. It takes its time, and some folks might find it a bit slow and lengthy, making them a tad bored.

In the first half, the focus is mostly on setting up Mammootty’s character and building up the mystery. The director goes into every little detail, which might feel a bit too much, and you’ve got to be patient to enjoy the unfolding drama.

Towards the end, things get a bit typical for a unique movie like this, and it could have been handled better. Surprisingly, despite its slow pace, the first half is more interesting compared to the second half.

Technical Elements :

Malayalam movies are getting really good technically, and Bramayugam is no exception. The production design team did an awesome job. They made sure there’s lots of greenery around the mansion, adding to the mystery. Christo Xavier’s background music, Shehnad Jalal’s beautiful cinematography, and the captivating sound design by Jayadev all contribute a lot to the movie.

The editing matches the director’s vision. Rahul Sadasivan knew what he wanted and delivered it perfectly. He worked well with the technicians and got the best performances out of Mammootty and the other actors. The production quality is also good.

Conclusion :

In a nutshell, Bramayugam tries something different, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Mammootty does an excellent job, and the movie benefits from fantastic technical aspects. Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharathan also play their parts well. The movie takes its time, and that might not be enjoyable for many. The story unfolds slowly, and sometimes it can be a bit annoying. The first half is more impactful compared to the second. If you’re into unique films, you might enjoy Bramayugam, but for others, it might not be that exciting.
