Naga Chaitanya makes his OTT debut with “Dhootha,” a Telugu web series currently available on Prime Video. Directed by Vikram K Kumar and produced by Sharrath Marar, the series boasts a stellar cast including Priya Bhavani Shankar, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and more.

Story: Sagar (Naga Chaitanya), a celebrated journalist, experiences a series of tragedies after becoming the Chief Editor of Samachar newspaper. What makes it more intriguing is the foretelling of these events in newspaper clippings. As Sagar navigates through the mystery, the series delves into the emotional connection between a father and daughter.

Plus Points: Director Vikram K Kumar excels in storytelling, presenting a known plot in an engaging manner. The suspense is well-built, supported by a compelling background score, arresting visuals, and impeccable production design. Thrilling moments are seamlessly woven into the narrative, keeping the audience on the edge. The show delivers a powerful societal message with multiple layers and well-developed characters.

Naga Chaitanya’s OTT debut is impressive, portraying a character with two shades convincingly. Parvathy Thiruvothu steals the show with a compelling performance, and the supporting cast, including Priya Bhavani Shankar and Prachi Desai, delivers solid performances. The climax episode, unfolding twists, adds to the series’ appeal.

Minus Points: The flashback portions lack impact and could have been executed more effectively. The runtime, particularly in mid-episodes, affects the pacing. Some cuss words may not resonate well with all viewers.

Technical Aspects: Ishaan Chhabra’s eerie background score adds intrigue, complemented by top-notch cinematography by Mikolaj Sygula. The series boasts solid production values, with every frame exuding quality. While the editing could be improved, Vikram K Kumar redeems himself with gripping storytelling.

Verdict: “Dhootha” stands out as a captivating mystery thriller, despite the familiar plot. Engaging narrative, exceptional performances, and strong technical values make it a worthwhile watch. While a shorter runtime and enhanced flashback portions could have elevated the impact, Naga Chaitanya’s performance ensures an enjoyable experience. “Dhootha” is recommended for a weekend binge.
