The Telugu romantic comedy web series “Miss Perfect,” featuring Lavanya Tripathi and Abijeet Duddala, is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. Explore our review for insights into the 8-episode series.
Story:
Following a heartbreak, Lavanya Rao (played by Lavanya Tripathi), a meticulous management consultant with OCD tendencies, relocates from Delhi to the Shanti Nilayam apartment in Hyderabad. Amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, her maid Jyoti asks her to notify Rohit, a software engineer residing in the same apartment, about her absence from work. However, Rohit mistakenly assumes Lavanya is the maid. Subsequently, Lavanya adopts the persona of maid Laxmi. As they spend time together, feelings blossom between them. The plot unfolds as viewers are left wondering about the reasons behind Lavanya concealing her true identity, whether Rohit discovers the truth, and what ultimately transpires in this captivating small-screen tale.
Positive Aspects :
After her impactful debut in Puli Meka, Lavanya Tripathi adds a delightful twist to her character in this romantic comedy series, embodying someone with a strong affinity for cleanliness. Her portrayal is both charming and entertaining, effectively showcasing her acting prowess.
Abijeet Duddala, in the pivotal role of Rohit, significantly enriches the storyline with a commendable performance. His charisma lends an appealing touch to the character, elevating the overall viewing experience.
Abhignya, in the role of a lively maid, effortlessly injects humor into Miss Perfect, making it a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Mahesh Vitta and Harshavardhan, along with the supporting cast, contribute satisfactory performances to the series.
Negative Aspects :
Despite its potential, Miss Perfect falls short in delivering the necessary situational comedy crucial for connecting with the audience in the romantic comedy genre. The series missed a valuable opportunity to infuse more comedic elements, an oversight attributed to writers Francis Thomas and Shruti Ramachandran, along with director Vishvak Khanderao.
While the initial episodes effectively set the stage, the subsequent proceedings lack the desired impact. The narrative fails to fully explore the potential for drama and comedy between the lead characters, leaving a sense of unfulfilled potential.
The subplot involving Harshavardhan and Jhansi introduces hindrances to the plot, and the climax episodes could have been more compelling to elevate the series from decent to exceptional.
Abhignya’s portrayal of Jyothi lacks emotional depth in her family situations. Additionally, the director could have maximized the use of Mahesh Vitta and Harsh Roshan to generate more impactful comedic elements.
Technical Elements :
Vishvak Khanderao has executed his role as a director satisfactorily. However, writers Francis Thomas and Shruti Ramachandran could have significantly improved the rom-com series by placing a greater emphasis on situational comedy and drama. Despite this, their commitment to crafting a wholesome, family-friendly rom-com deserves recognition.
Prashant R Vihari’s music and Aditya Javvadi’s camera work make effective contributions to the series. While the editing is generally acceptable, fine-tuning in the mid-episodes could enhance the overall viewing experience. The commendable production quality stands as a testament to the dedicated team behind the scenes.
Conclusion :
In its entirety, Miss Perfect, an 8-episode rom-com series, may not be as ‘perfect’ as the title suggests but manages to provide its fair share of entertaining moments. Lavanya Tripathi, Abijeet, and Abhignya deliver performances that are commendable. However, the series faces challenges due to the absence of situational comedy, occasional slow pacing, and an unnecessary sub-track. If you’re in search of a family-friendly series and are willing to overlook these aspects, Miss Perfect could be a suitable choice for a weekend watch—just remember to keep your expectations in check.
