Picture this: the exciting collaboration between the brilliant minds behind “Good Night” fame, Manikandan, and “Mad” fame, Sri Gouri Priya, has finally come to life in the form of the eagerly awaited film, “Lover.” The dynamic duo of SKN and Maruthi has taken the helm to present the Telugu audience with the film, cleverly titled “True Lover.” Under the guidance of director Prabhuram Vyas, this romantic drama promises an emotional rollercoaster through its captivating storyline and exceptional performances. Let’s embark on a cinematic journey together and discover the magic woven by this talented team.

STORY:

Let me share the tale of Arun (played by Manikandan) and Divya (brought to life by Sri Gouri Priya), two college sweethearts deeply immersed in a six-year relationship. Their journey takes an unexpected turn as Arun’s possessiveness and aggressive nature cast a shadow over their love. Arun, dreaming of starting a cafe, faces the harsh reality of struggling to secure investors. In a bid for stability, he follows Divya’s advice and tries his hand at a job, but the path is fraught with challenges.

As their relationship faces turbulence, Arun finds himself entangled in frequent disagreements with Divya. The burning questions linger: did Arun and Divya choose to walk down the aisle? Did their love endure the storms, or did it reach a breaking point? The essence of the film lies in unraveling these human, relatable emotions, painting a poignant picture of love, challenges, and the quest for resolution.

POSITIVE ASPECTS :

Imagine two movies about how people get along. One, called “If Love Today,” tries to be funny, while the other, “True Lover,” takes a more serious approach. They show how relationships are nowadays, with characters named Arun and Divya going through a lot. The serious one, “True Lover,” might not have the funniest jokes, but it connects with young people.

Now, let’s talk about Manikandan, the actor playing Arun. He does such a good job that you end up not liking Arun, the character. The young actor is trying different roles, and he’s doing a great job, especially when he speaks Telugu.

In “True Lover,” Sri Gouri Priya is amazing. She plays her part so well, showing the pain her character feels from a tough relationship. This kind of role is hard, but Gouri Priya does it really well. She also has great chemistry with the main character. If she keeps making good choices in her career, she’s going to do really well. The end of the movie makes sense of everything that happened in the second half, and the other actors in the movie do their parts well. It all feels real and relatable, making the movie enjoyable.

NEGATIVE ASPECTS :

“True Lover” faces a bit of a stumbling block due to its repetitive theme. The director keeps showing similar situations over and over to highlight the toxic relationship between Arun and Divya. Arun’s habit of shouting and then immediately apologizing to Divya becomes a routine, making the movie feel like it’s going in circles.

Take, for instance, the opening and interval sequences – they look almost identical. Divya tries to keep her hangouts with friends a secret, but Arun always finds out through their Instagram stories. This kind of predictability, along with some convenient writing, takes away from the movie’s impact.

While the first half has some engaging moments, the second half loses that spark. There’s a powerful dialogue in the second half that sums up the toxic relationship, but until then, the story doesn’t move much.

The later part of the movie seems unnecessarily dragged, repeating scenarios from the first half. Thankfully, the climax breaks away from the expected routine, avoiding artificiality. However, the closure is still pending, keeping us waiting for that resolution. It would have been nice to see more scenes with the protagonist and his parents, as they play a crucial role in the story. This could have added more depth to the characters and their relationships.

TECHNICAL ELEMENTS:

Let’s talk about the music in “True Lover” by Sean Ronaldon—it really captures the feel of the movie, matching the tone perfectly. The decision to use different colors to bring out the dark side of the lead couple’s relationship is a thoughtful touch. Shreyaas Krishna’s camera work adds a lot of impact, and the overall production quality is good. Now, here’s the thing—the movie is a bit on the longer side. Love stories like this one could benefit from some tight editing.

Director Prabhuram Vyas has some wins. He does a good job showing the tough realities of life today, and he gets strong performances from Manikandan and Gouri Priya. However, it feels like there could have been more interesting ideas to make the film even more engaging. The ending is handled well, but the slower pace in the second half might make you feel a bit bored at times.

CONCLUSION :

So, “True Lover” gives it a real shot at depicting the challenges in modern relationships, but here’s the thing—the director kind of sticks to the same ideas a bit too much, making the movie feel a bit stretched. Still, there are moments that the younger crowd might connect with. Manikandan and Sri Gouri Priya really put in their best efforts and bring a lot to the movie. It could have been even better with a bit more trimming. If you’re okay with these imperfections, it might be worth checking out.
