Before the Telangana election, BRS spearheaded an intense social media campaign, with numerous Telugu character artists and TV personalities sharing BRS song campaign reels online. Supritha, the daughter of Telugu actress Surekha Vani, also participated in this campaign. However, she faced severe criticism and trolling that took a toll on her mental health.
In response to the backlash, Supritha swiftly deleted her social media posts related to BRS, including a video of her dancing to BRS’s Gulabila Jendale song. Instead, she uploaded a photo of herself and her mother, Surekha, with Revanth Reddy, congratulating the Telangana Congress chief after BRS lost to Congress in the election.
Despite her attempt to shift focus, social media users continued to torment Supritha, accusing her of opportunism for deleting BRS-related posts and aligning herself with Revanth Reddy after Congress came to power. She became the target of extensive trolling and memes on social media.
Expressing her distress, Supritha questioned why she was being hated so much over a political situation and highlighted the impact on her mental health. She clarified that her post was merely a congratulatory message to the new Chief Minister.
While it’s common for political parties to engage social media influencers during elections, the extent of trolling and torment directed at Supritha may not be warranted. Nevertheless, such incidents are not uncommon in the often hostile environment of social media. Other actors like Shivjyothi and Ashu Reddy, who also shared BRS posts earlier, are now facing similar trolling.
