Political Shift: Sharmila Joins Congress

YS Sharmila, Sister of Jagan Reddy, Joyfully Merges YSR Telangana Party into Congress, Boosting the Party’s Prospects in Recent Telangana Elections with a Strategic Move.

YS Sharmila, founder of the YSR Telangana Party, joyfully announced the formal merger of her party into the Congress in New Delhi. The event was graced by the presence of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed her happiness at joining the Indian National Congress during the gathering at the AICC headquarters.

Her decision to merge the YSR Telangana Party with the Congress comes after her consistent support for the latter during the recent Telangana assembly elections. Sharmila cited her belief in the Congress party’s potential to win in Telangana, emphasizing her dissatisfaction with KCR’s unfulfilled promises during his 9-year tenure. In a statement ahead of the elections, she asserted her commitment to preventing KCR’s return to power.

The move is significant, as Sharmila acknowledged the risk of affecting the Congress vote bank but prioritized preventing KCR’s re-election. The Congress eventually emerged victorious in the Telangana assembly elections, solidifying Sharmila’s support for the party.
