Nayanthara’s Annapoorani Sparks Controversy, Alleged Religious Insensitivity. FIR Filed in Mumbai. Film Faces Backlash Over ‘Love Jihad’ Accusations.
Nayanthara and Jai starrer ‘Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food’ is facing controversy as an FIR was filed in Mumbai by Ramesh Solanki, accusing the film of hurting religious sentiments and promoting ‘Love Jihad’. Solanki expressed concern over a controversial comment related to Lord Ram in the movie. The film, directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, is currently available on Netflix.
In response to the allegations, Solanki shared a statement on social media and lodged a police complaint against Nayanthara, Jai, Nilesh, and the producers including Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, and Punit Goenka, as well as Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel and Netflix India Head Monika Shergill. The complainant asserted that ‘Annapoorani’ offended Hindu sentiments and propagated Love Jihad.
‘Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food’ revolves around Nayanthara’s character, an aspiring chef participating in the reality show ‘India’s Best Chef’ against her mother’s advice. The film, jointly produced by Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, also features Jai, Sathyaraj, Redin Kingsley, Suresh Chakravarthy, Renuka, and KS Ravikumar. Thaman S composed the music, and Sathyan Sooryan served as the cinematographer. Nayanthara’s collaboration with Jai marks their reunion after the 2013 film ‘Raja Rani’.
