In a surprising move, Netflix has decided to remove the movie ‘Annapoorani’ from its platform due to allegations of anti-Hindu sentiments. Hindu groups, led by Ramesh Solanki, filed a legal complaint against the film, claiming it hurt religious feelings and promoted ‘love jihad.’ The story follows a Brahmin woman torn between her ambitions and traditional beliefs in Srirangam.
The controversy centers on scenes depicting relationships across caste and religion, as well as references to Lord Rama consuming meat and a Brahmin girl wearing a hijab and offering namaz. Zee Studios, a film producer, has assured the Vishwa Hindu Parishad that the movie will be temporarily taken down for editing to address the concerns. The legal battle continues with accusations against actors, the director, and others associated with the film.
