“Sam Bahadur,” a 2023 Indian biographical war drama film, directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala under RSVP Movies, celebrates the life of India’s first field marshal, Sam Manekshaw. Starring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, the film unfolds against the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, showcasing Manekshaw’s pivotal role in leading the Indian Army to secure Bangladesh’s liberation.
Co-written by Meghna Gulzar, Bhavani Iyer, and Shantanu Srivastava, the movie features a stellar cast, including Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Neeraj Kabi, Edward Sonnenblick, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. This project marks the second collaboration between Gulzar and Kaushal.
Announced on the 107th birth anniversary of Sam Manekshaw in 2021, the film was shot over two years across 13 locations in India, spanning four decades of Manekshaw’s life. The first teaser was revealed on December 1, 2022, with the official teaser released on October 13, 2023, by RSVP Productions.
